Our Leadership
Dr. Ariane Marelli
is Associate Professor of Medicine at McGill University. She is on staff at the McGill University Health Centre and the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital. She completed her core training in adult cardiology and a one year fellowship in pediatric cardiology at McGill University. She was one of the first cardiologists to obtain advanced fellowship training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease which she did at the University of California in Los Angeles. She took her first faculty position at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. She returned to the McGill University Health Centre in l997. She lectures internationally on topics related to adults with congenital heart disease. Her research interest involves the epidemiology of congenital heart disease. She has written papers and book chapters on congenital heart disease in adults. She is a founding member of the International Society for Adults with Congenital Cardiac Disease. She is currently the Director of the MAUDE Unit at McGill University.
Dr. Giuseppe Martucci
is Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill University. He is on staff at the McGill University Health Centre and the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital. He completed his cardiology core training at McGill University. He then pursued his
fellowship training in interventional cardiology at the Montreal Heart Institute. This was followed by more advanced training in Interventional Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension and Valvular Intervention at the Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His particular research interest involves the design of cardiac valves and molecular biology. He joined the MAUDE Unit in 2005. He is presently the Director of Interventional Congenital Heart Disease for the MAUDE Unit.Dr. Christo Tchervenkov
is a Professor of Surgery at McGill. He is the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and a senior surgeon at the Montreal General and Royal Victoria Hospitals of the MUHC. He trained in general surgery, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at McGill University. He was Chief Resident in pediatric cardiac surgery at the Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School with Aldo R. Castaneda. In 1987, he returned to McGill to be one of the first surgeons in Canada to perform complex heart surgery in newborns and infants. He is recognized as one of the top congenital heart surgeons in Canada. He has a long-standing experience performing complex congenital heart disease operations in patients from birth to old age. He has delivered a large array of lectures worldwide. His surgical results are published in many papers and book chapters. He currently serves on the Councils of the Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society and the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association. He is Chairman of the International Nomenclature Working Group for Congenital Heart Disease, President of the Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery “Aldo R. Castaneda” and Founding President of the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery. He is the Director of the McGill Centre of Excellence for Congenital Heart Disease.
Dr. Judith Therrien
is Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill University. She is on staff at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital and the McGill University Health Centre. She completed her cardiology core training and cardiac ultrasound fellowship at McGill University. She pursued advanced fellowship training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease in Toronto and in London UK. She is an internationally invited lecturer on adult congenital heart disease. Her research interest involves the study of abnormal heart muscle function of the right ventricle. She is widely published and has recently co-written a book entitled Adult Congenital Heart Disease: a Practical Guide which is being translated into many languages. She joined the MAUDE Unit in 2005. She is presently Director of Fellowship Training for the MAUDE Unit and President of the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart (CACH) Network.
